More than halfway through their 2016 Winter Tour and Yonder Mountain String Band has proven (again) why they’re one of the true forces of modern bluegrass. Borrowing from the rich tradition of string bands who came before them, while adding their own flair and flavor to the music, YMSB is a perennial must-see.

Last week during a midst of a run of Florida tour dates, Yonder Mountain made a stop at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, crafting up a vintage Saturday night throw down that included a bevy of covers including Bob Dylan’s “Spanish Harlem Incident,” Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation,” The Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City,” the Talking Heads’ “Girlfriend Is Better,” The Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979,” the Face’s “Ooh La La” and a pair of Grateful Dead covers, “I Know You Rider” and “Jack A Roe.”
