As reported earlier this month, Mars Volta members have formed a new group Antemasque. While it was previously thought that Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers was a member, they clarified that unfortunately, he is not. The band explained that he was included in their teaser video as a thank you for allowing them to record in his studio and crash on his floor. While not an official member of the band, he did play on some of their tracks. Of their collaboration, the band said, “This is what happens when artists collaborate for love of playing together, without an end result in mind.”

Antemasque also released a new song, “Drown All Your Witches“, a chilling acoustic track off their new self-titled album set to drop July 15th. The band originally intended to release only one track, “4 AM” but decided to issue two more, “Hanging in the Lurch” and “People Forget” based on the outpouring of positive responses from their fans. Instead of signing to a major label or releasing their music on a typical schedule, the band intends to release their music based on demand from the fans, stating,

“If the whole thing looked unplanned, that’s because it was. The anticipation of what the reaction from fans and critics was very real for us with every new song we put out.”

The band plans to sell the three songs they released last week as a bundle, and the first 10,000 people to buy also get a download of “Drown All Your Witches.”
