Stephen Colbert just graduated to late night prime time television, taking over for the legendary David Letterman on CBS’s The Late Show. He eased into his new role on the famous Ed Sullivan Theater stage by first interviewing George Clooney and Jeb Bush.

Finally, Colbert’s new band leader Jon Batiste from New Orleans and his band Stay Human welcomed a huge all-star roster of surprise special guests to the stage to really kick things off properly. Mavis Staples, Buddy Guy, Aloe Blacc, Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), Derek Trucks (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Allman Bros), Susan Tedeschi (TTB), Ben Folds, Paul Janeway (St. Paul and the Broken Bones) and more helped welcome Stephen to The Late Show with an outstanding rendition of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Everyday People.” Even Stephen gets in on the action towards the end.
