At this point, we’ve all seen the periodic updates on Tool’s follow up album to 10,000 Days (2006). At times discouraging, at other times encouraging, progress on the new Tool release has been inching along for the past few years. Yesterday, however, fans got some reassuring news from the band’s official website.

In an update posted by the Tool webmaster, it seems that the band has linked up with their vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, to start work on vocal tracks. Read the post below.

In speaking with Danny [Carey, drummer] last night, he told me that the band has temporarily MOVED some of their gear into a larger space (across town) where MAYNARD is working on VOCALS for some of the new Tool material. I’m sure that he has already been doing this to some extent, but now he has more room to breathe and a better vocal booth.

Generally speaking, adding in vocal tracks typically comes at the end of a recording process, suggesting that the band might be nearing completion on their long-discussed new work – however, that is purely speculation. It is certainly reassuring to learn that Keenan is involved with the session, as the singer recently announced a tour with the newly reunited supergroup, A Perfect Circle. That band has plans to release new music, too.
