On Friday night, March 3rd, renowned Port Chester, NY venue The Capitol Theatre featured a very special tribute to the late Jerry Garcia. The headlining band of the night was none other than Melvin Seals & JGB, keeping up the torch of the Jerry Garcia Band with its beloved keyboardist. Opening the show was guitarist John Kadlecik and his band, another disciple of Garcia who made waves as the lead guitarist of Furthur with Bob Weir and Phil Lesh.
Kadlecik not only opened the show, but he also emerged at the end of JGB’s set for two classic songs. They played Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come” and ended the show with Garcia’s song, “Deal.” Both were staples of the JGB rotation, and they rounded out a fantastic performance at the Cap.
Fortunately, thanks to taper Keith Antaya, we can listen to Melvin Seals & JGB’s set with the special guest sit in from Kadlecik. The whole show also features saxophonist Ron Holloway!
