MGMT have been on a musical hiatus since the release of 2013’s self-titled album, the record that included millennial favorites “Alien Days” and “Plenty of Girls In the Sea,” but suggested a definite pause in creativity. The band, made famous through their early-to-mid 2000s hits “Kids” and “Electric Feel,” recently returned to the stage with several festival appearances this summer, promising to debut some new material along the way. With a new album promised for 2018, the band has shared its first taste with a new song and music video for its title-track, “Little Dark Age.” Produced by MGMT, the band also brought in Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift, Kelela, Blood Orange), and long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Spoon, Tame Impala) to work on the album. From what we can tell, this new music is going in a direction that we can get down with.

Directed by Nathaniel Axel and David MacNutt, the music video features “sinister and surreal vignettes of MGMT members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser dressed in flamboyant gothic attire, stalked by the figure of Death,” according to a press release.
