Mike Gordon brought his new band to the Academy of Music in Northampton, MA last night, partaking in some special Father’s Day shenanigans amid a great performance. One of the more notable highlights was a fire alarm that forced the entire venue to evacuate – including the band – and a debut cover in honor of the alarm.

The post-fire alarm second set began with “Burning Down The House” by the Talking Heads, a brand new debut for Gordon. The Phish bassist has only performed the song once before (that we know of!) – with Phish, back in 1998.

The show also included some Father’s Day craziness, with each band member participating in some on-stage stereotypical Father activity. It started with keyboardist Robert Walter leaving his keys to fire up a grill on stage, then percussionist Craig Myers put on a suit, grabbed a briefcase and left the stage. Drummer John Kimock busted out a pipe and newspaper while playing the cymbals, while guitarist Scott Murawski and his son Ian put on “555” hats and pennants to cheer.

Gordo brought out his daughter Tessa, and the two had a catch right there on stage. Later on, she gave her dad a shirt that says “Papa Loves Mambo”. By all accounts, it was a very fun night. [Source]

Mike Gordon continues his tour on Friday, June 26th at the Boarding House Park in Lowell, MA, one of three final shows before the band completes their June tour. Gordon will meet up with his Phish mates on July 21st in Bend, OR for their summer tour.
