Brooklyn-based trio Moon Hooch has developed a sound in a category unto itself. Dance party meets jazz lounge. Busker meets late-night club. However you add it all up, these former students of New York City’s The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music have created a buzz that is carrying itself across the country, and rapidly at that. The band recently announced a headlining spot at Boulder, CO’s The Fox Theatre on Saturday, October 7th with special guests Jackson Whalan and Lavender Fields (purchase tickets here).

James Muschler (drums), Mike Wilbur (Tenor Saxophone, Vocals, Synth) and Wenzl McGowen (EWI, tenor/baritone sax, clarinet) have developed a raw, kinetic, yet sophisticated sound that vibes perfectly both in the studio and in the live setting. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 2013, the group has kept a fervent pace, as they dropped the exploratory Joshua Tree EP earlier this year, followed by Live at The Cathedral most recently back in mid-July.

Another fellow student of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC, Jackson Whalan combines a love of hip-hop, electronic music, live instrumentation and socially thought-provoking lyrics. He has collaborated with Mr. Lif, Jo Jo Mayer & Nerve, Space Jesus, SOOHAN, to name a few, and is just getting things started.

Multi-instrumentalist Lavender Fields is most definitely on a natural and spiritual journey of the psychedelic kind, drawing influences from the reggae, dub, electronic and classical genres. Combining analog equipment with the latest music production technologies, while concentrating on the healing sound frequencies found in nature, Lavender Fields is making music for your soul.
