As if Morrissey needed another reason to give us his opinion on a myriad of topics, Madison Square Garden may have just pulled the mother of all moves during the Moz show at the venue this past Saturday night. As some of you may remember from a story that was published in early May, Morrissey, a life-long advocate of vegan lifestyle and calling an end to the slaughter of animals for food, was able to get MSG to agree on making the venue vegan for the night after writing to Al Gore and Live Earth co-founder Kevin Wall making his case for the event to be completely meat and dairy free (which is something he has negotiated with other venues in the past as well).

Morrissey Gets Madison Square Garden To Go Vegan

While MSG acquiesced to the demands and didn’t sell any meat or dairy products at the various food stands inside the venue, it is quite clear from several pictures that were posted that a variety of meat and seafood dishes (sushi, meatball sliders, chicken fingers) were being served in the corporate suite during the show. According to attendee Jessica Pearson, who sent pictures in to the Gothamist, along with the following statement:

“This weekend I attended the Morrissey show at Madison Square Garden. Moz proudly announced that it was a historic day as Madison Square Garden went fully Vegan. Turns out it was vegan everywhere BUT the corporate suites. MSG offered up House Made Meatball Sliders, Hill Country Brisket Sandwiches, Cereal-Crusted Chicken Fingers, and Fresh Sushi Platters. Friends on the main floor ate vegan hot dogs. Thought you would find it amusing—though I’m sure Mr. Morrissey will not.”

Reasons Why I Hate Morrissey (Opinion Piece)

While the Gothamist reached out to Moz’s camp for a statement to no avail, we can’t imagine the singer keeping quite about this for very long at all. If he doesn’t respond, hell has officially frozen over.
