A few nights ago, My Morning Jacket surprised fans in Oklahoma City, OK with a trio of Prince covers, playing an emotional tribute with “Sign O The Times,” “Raspberry Beret,” and “Purple Rain.” Two of those songs, “Sign O The Times” and “Purple Rain” found their way into the setlist on the following night, and, by the time MMJ hit the Fairgrounds at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the band was primed and ready to deliver an enormously powerful performance.

Not only did they reprise those two Prince songs in honor of the late legend, but the band called on the horn section from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in the process. In doing so, MMJ brought a flare of the New Orleans’ sound into the performance, adding an emotional level to the masterful performance. Watch both covers below, thanks to themeboudin on YouTube:

The full setlist featured a number of hits from MMJ’s lengthy career, including classics like “Mageetah,” “One Big Holiday” and more, as well as a number of newer songs from 2015’s The Waterfall, like “Spring (Among The Living),” “Believe (Nobody Knows)” and more.
