The New Mastersounds finished up an extensive tour around Colorado last night with the final night of a two-night stand at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. The band has been on fire for this mountain tour, with the New Mastersounds bringing their patented funk fusion to the ski towns of Aspen, Vail, and Steamboat Springs, before hitting Boulder for the Fox Theatre’s anniversary and then three nights in Denver. After an intimate performance at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox on Thursday night, the band was properly primed for their two-night takeover of Cervantes’ with The New Orleans Suspects.

The band from Leeds is a pleasure to see, with the New Mastersounds bringing a precision and sharpness to their playing that’s a joy to watch live. However, no energy is lost nor are they bogged down by this intentionality; rather, the New Mastersounds knew exactly how to captivate an audience and build the energy up of a crowd, as they showed in Denver, with their jubilant hooks, engaging rhythm work, and their ability to build a song to a frenetic peak without it feeling too frenzied.
