On December 29th, 2016, STS9 was posted up at Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium, kicking off their three-night New Year’s Run to welcome in 2017. It was a big night for fans who made it out to the first night of Tribe’s run, with STS9 busting out “Havona Ascent” after twelve long years of being tabled from rotation. On top of that, the huge bust-out marked the first song of the night, and considering the song hadn’t been played since 2004, the crowd was about it.

Since then, STS9 has been working “Havona Ascent” regularly back into their setlists, with the song popping up a number of times of the past few months. One angel of a fan, Derek Sabiston, just released a remix of the “Havona” from Tribe’s past New Year’s run. The track dubbed “Notorious Ascent” mixes Sound Tribe’s performance of “Havona” with parts of Notorious B.I.G.’s “Dead Wrong,” “Fucking Tonight,” “Hypnotize,” “Gimme the Loot,” and “Party & Bullshit,” and we can’t stop listening. The remix isn’t too out of Sound Tribe’s element, however. During their Red Rocks performance last year, Tribe invited out guest vocalist Maureen Murphy to join them for a cover of The Isley Brothers’ “Between The Sheets”—Biggie’s classic hit “Big Poppa” samples the Isley Brothers’ song heavily, which spurred the blissed out Red Rocks crowd to sing the chorus to the Notorious B.I.G. track.

Also, considering that STS9 is about to run up on their 20th anniversary, with a huge three-night Red Rocks blow-out this fall, you’re not going to want to miss out on what they have planned. On Friday, the group will play the entirety of Artifact, their 2005 release that was recorded across 2001 through 2004. The first night of the run will also see performances by Nightmares on Wax, El Ten Eleven, and Moon Boots. Saturday night, SUB-ID and Richard Devine will serve as support before Tribe puts on a more standard performance, though the performance is likely to be anything but standard. To close out their Red Rocks run on Sunday, STS9 will play a special “Axe The Cables” acoustic set to end their celebratory weekend. Troyboi, LTJ Bukem featuring Armanni Reign, and Soul Clap will kick off this last show.
