Across the world, folks have been mourning the twenty-two lives lost at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK, on Monday night. Today, a crowd gathered in the city for a memorial, during which the masses sang Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger” following a moment of silence for those fallen. Oasis is from Manchester, making the tribute particularly touching and rooted in the city’s rich musical history.

The song was started by Lydia Bernsmeier-Rullow, who, in an interview with  Speaking with The Guardian, stated, “The whole ‘Don’t look back in anger,’ that’s what this is about. We can’t be looking backward to what happened. We have to look forwards to the future. We’re all going to join together, we’re all going to get on with it, because that’s what Manchester does.”  After Bernsmeier-Rullow started the song, slowly, other members of the crowd joined her for the rendition.
