Back for the first time since their hiatus in 2013, Perpetual Groove hit the Georgia Theatre for two nights of incredible music on May 28th and 29th. The whole experience proved cathartic for the band’s Southern jam fans, wasting no time and digging into the depths of their catalog for five full sets, including one on a rooftop, over the course of the two days.

Opening with a debut cover of Pearl Jam’s “Release,” the band worked their way through a number of originals in the first set of the first night. The highlight of the show was an extended “Green Tea,” which included “Orange Wedge” and “Macumba” sections. They closed out the first show with another debut cover, TV On The Radio’s “Trouble.” With a refrain of “everybody’s gonna be okay,” the choice was all too fitting for the band’s reunion.

The group started their second night with a rooftop concert at the Georgia Theatre. Out in the light of day, the band played some fan favorites, including “Lost Connections,” mixed in with some covers, like Van Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey” and Modest Mouse’s “Float On.” Hours later, it was time for the main show, which opened with a version of “It Starts Where It Ends.” The show’s highlight was probably the “Mr. Transistor > Echo > Mr. Transistor” in the second half – but the show was one big highlight. Perpetual Groove is back!
