With tens of thousands of hippies coming into Chicago for the Grateful Dead’s final performances at Soldier Field, concert promoter/Deadhead extraordinaire Peter Shapiro sat down with mayor Rahm Emanuel to ensure everything was smoothed over before last night’s event.

Shapiro spoke about the meeting to Billboard, saying “I thanked him for letting us bring the circus to town… It was a good meeting.”

A circus indeed, though the fans remained well behaved throughout an incredible first night of music. A veritable who’s who have made the trip out to Chicago as well, with various members of Phish in the audience, as well as people like Sen. Al Franken, John Mayer, and more.

See you there tonight!
