Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh wrapped up a three-night stand at the beloved Capitol Theatre last night, May 29th. For the final night of the run, Lesh returned with an all-star lineup that featured guitarists Warren Haynes and Eric Krasno, drummers Tony Leone and Alex Koford, and special guest keyboardist Melvin Seals. The two shows marked the first for Seals with the Phil Lesh & Friends ensemble, and the JGB was warmly welcomed into the fold.

The show featured a classic mix of Grateful Dead originals and classic covers, opening with Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour” and bringing out tunes like Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and Eric Clapton’s “After Midnight” in the first set.

The second set featured more Grateful Dead music, with “The Wheel” opener into “Just A Little Light.” From there, the band went into the “Help On The Way > Slipknot!” before bringing out Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody” instead of the traditional “Franklin’s Tower.” After a groovy “Eyes Of The World,” the band went into Procol Harum’s “Whiter Shade Of Pale” and finished off the set with “Fire On The Mountain.” A punchy upbeat “Not Fade Away” closed the show.
