Last Saturday night, Primus played their first of three September shows with Tool drummer Danny Carey. Carey is filling in for Tim Alexander, who is recovering from open heart surgery after experiencing a heart attack. Alexander is expected to make a full recovery and return for the band’s shows in October, but, until then, Carey is doing a bang-up job behind the kit.

Their first gig with Danny Carey was held at Concord Music Hall in Chicago, and the band played through a number of Primus classics, including “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and “My Name Is Mud.” The band also worked a cover of Tool’s “Ænema” into the setlist, which you can watch a brief fan-shot video of below:

Primus Setlist Concord Music Hall, Chicago, IL, USA 2014

Primus will be performing tomorrow night in Fargo, ND, and again at next weekend’s Riot Fest in Denver. The band will then take a month-long break, before the release of their new album, Primus & The Chocolate Factory With The Fungi Ensemble, on October 21st. The album marks the first Primus release with the band’s classic lineup since 1995. The band will also be touring extensively in support of the album, with the following dates:
