*UPDATE* Prince responded to the circling news that the possibility of him playing a Jimi Hendrix cover set is “completely false,” then followed it up with a retweet to JamBase, saying “EXACTLY.” He has since deleted both tweets, adding to the mystery of it all.

How cool would it be to see Prince play the songs of Jimi Hendrix for an entire festival set? The Purple One’s theatrical persona, soaring guitar solos, and overall musical presence would make for an incredibly interesting night of music when coupled with the songbook of the 1960s’ psychedelic blues sensation.

Well, according to festival organizer John Giddings from Isle of Wight, Prince is “quite excited by the idea,” after having been approached several times about the idea. Prince wouldn’t nudge yes unless he meant it, although nothing has been confirmed. With the idea being very well received, the only person left to make this happen is Prince himself.

Apparently his contacts are the barrier between the dream. “It’s very hard to know who Prince’s representative is. He’s a bit elusive. But he’s very ahead of the game and one of the most talented musicians the world has turned out. He’s welcome to come any day of the week,” Giddings explained to Loaded. We’ll keep our fingers crossed!

Isle of Wight’s 2016 is set to go down this summer, June 9th – 12th. The lineup features Iggy Pop, The Kills, Buzzcocks, Queen + Adam Lambert, Stereophonics, Faithless, and so many more. Stay tuned on more festival additions and announcements on their website.
