Prince was a man of mystery, both in the public and private eye. He was a philanthropist, anonymously helping others for the sake of being generous. When the Purple One found out that Clyde Stubblefield had cancer fifteen years ago, with medical bills amounting to $90,000, he had his team call the “Funky Drummer”‘s wife  to offer some help. He donated $80,000 and asked that his good deed be left out of the ears of the press.

Stubblefield was one of Prince’s “drumming idols,” according to a member of Prince’s former charity team at Love 4 One Another. The respect was musical, as Stubblefield told Madison, Wisconsin’s News 3 that “He was very different. To help people, number one, that makes you different right there.” Perhaps the most beautiful part of this story is that Prince and Clyde Stubblefield had never actually met in real life. “I still don’t understand why,” Stubblefield concluded. We should all learn from Prince and continue his random acts of kindness in our own lives.
