Remember the decade-old gem “Ridin'”? Well it seems that rapper Chamillionare has taken out his grill, cleaned up his act, and has been quietly building up his presence in the tech start-up scene, particularly in regards to connecting social media engagement and technological advances in the music industry. This week, venture capitalist Mark Suster, general partner at Upfront Ventures in Los Angeles, wrote an open letter to his firm introducing Chamillionaire as the new entrepreneur in residence (EIR).

In addition to his new role, Chamillionaire has also made some wise investments in the past few years. He was one of the first to invest in online video network Maker Studios, and sold it to Disney for half a billion dollars last year. During an interview aired on This Week In Venture Capital, Chamillionaire discusses his newfound title and his passion for tech with Suster:

“I guess for a rapper, it’s not really the cool thing to do.  But I wish I could kind of lose that rapper moniker for a little while because, I don’t want people to look at me like a rapper… there’s a lot you can learn from someone else’s perspective outside of the norm. For a lot of my peers, hopefully, they’ll catch on soon.”

Check out the full interview with Suster below and be sure to watch out for some big investments from the rapper in the future.
