Back in July, moe. had surprising news for fans with the announcement that the group would be going on an indefinite hiatus following bassist Rob Derhak‘s diagnosis with oropharyngeal cancer. After performing their remaining shows together in July, Derhak began his cancer treatment in early August. Following the announcement of the diagnosis, the larger jam community banned together around the bassist in support, with fans starting a fundraiser to cover some of Derhak’s medical expenses. While moe. did perform at LOCKN’ this year for their scheduled phil.moe set with Phil Lesh, his bandmates made sure that their bassist would be there in spirit, equipping a tiny robot with a GoPro so that Derhak could check out the action onstage during the highly anticipated set from the comfort of his own home.

On Friday, the band posted the most recent update: “Rob finished chemo and radiation today! Words can’t describe how amazed and overjoyed we are with the amount of love you have all sent our way. Keep Rob in your thoughts through the coming weeks while we wait on the prognosis.”

Keep on rocking, Rob!
