Back in July, moe. had surprising news for fans with the announcement that the group would be going on an indefinite hiatus following bassist Rob Derhak‘s diagnosis with oropharyngeal cancer. After performing their remaining shows together in July, Derhak began his cancer treatment in early August. Following the announcement of the diagnosis, the larger jam community banned together around the bassist in support, with fans starting a fundraiser to cover some of Derhak’s medical expenses. While moe. did perform at LOCKN’ this year for their scheduled phil.moe set with Phil Lesh, his bandmates made sure that their bassist would be there in spirit, equipping a tiny robot with a GoPro so that Derhak could check out the action onstage during the highly anticipated set from the comfort of his own home.

While On Leave, moe. Bassist Rob Derhak Attended LOCKN’ Via This Tiny rob.ot

Today, Rob has shared an update on his health as he hits the midway point of his chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Happily, the moe. bassist notes, “I’m feeling pretty good all in all, and they say I’m looking really good for someone at this point.” During his update post on Facebook, he also took the time to thank his wife and brother in addition to the support of friends and his larger Famoe.ly. We love you, Rob, and can’t wait to see you back on the stage!

Hi Friends,

I’m on my way to Boston for my daily radiation treatment. I thought I’d give you an update on how things are going. This week marked the midway point for Chemo and Radiation. I’m feeling pretty good all in all, and they say I’m looking really good for someone at this point. The travel is a pain, but I’ve have great support driving me down. Major props to my wife Becca, Brother John, friend Edie.

I can’t say thank you enough to all of the support and help from my family, friends, and Famoe.ly. I love all you guys and am grateful that you are part of my life. I’ll be better soon, and as soon as I’m able, I’ll be back on stage performing for all you guys!

Thanks,
Robert Derhak
