We’ve all been there before; trying to buy tickets online, only to see them sold out just minutes after the on-sale time. The culprit? Scalpers using ticket bot software to automatically snag tickets from vendors.

The solution? Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) new Congressional bill to make ticket bots illegal. While bots are illegal in 14 states already, WIVB reports that Sen. Schumer has proposed a bill to fine scalpers $1000 for every ticket purchased using bot software, nationwide. Considering that an estimated 40% of tickets go to scalper bots, this would drastically increase the supply of affordable concert tickets.

The Senator says the bill has bi-partisan support and could be enacted by the end of this year. It seems that putting an end to being shut out for concert tickets is about the only thing Republicans and Democrats can agree upon these days.
