L4LM is proud to present a playlist featuring a few Grateful Dead gems that artists represented by Silverback have covered over the years, including Bradley Nowell and Sublime’s unique “Scarlet Begonias”, a composition that quickly became a staple in Sublime’s repertoire. The list also includes entries from The Roots of Creation, Slightly Stoopid and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, all members of the Silverback crew.

All of the artists were thrilled to be a part of the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary celebrations. Slightly Stoopid actually recorded a live album, Live at Roberto’s, at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios. Weir even joined them for a version of “I Know You Rider”, featured above. Meanwhile, the version of “Row Jimmy” by Roots of Creation is a brand new debut, and will be featured on the band’s upcoming triple album.

The Grateful Dead’s pioneering sound and forward thinking has been a constant influence on Silverback and all of the artists. Silverback attended their first Grateful Dead concert at Frost Amphitheatre, in Stanford, CA, on May 11th 1986. What a first show in beautiful sunny Northern California! “The bus came by and we got on, that’s when it all began…”
