Coinciding with the New York City and Los Angeles premieres of the new Grateful Dead documentary, Long Strange Trip, on May 26th, a soundtrack to accompany the film will also be released to the public. This will give Deadheads eager to see the new film directed by Amir Bar-Lev a week with the soundtrack to tide them over before the documentary is released to the general public on Amazon Prime on June 2nd. Today, we received more info about the details of the soundtrack for the documentary, coproduced by film director Amir Bar-Lev and Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux.

The soundtrack mixes studio recordings with live performances of the Dead and will contain unheard and unreleased Grateful Dead material. The Long Strange Trip soundtrack will be released as a 2-CD set both in hard copy and on digital streaming services. A second version of the soundtrack, an expanded 3-CD set available for purchase and streaming exclusively on Amazon, will also be released. For vinyl lovers, the entirety of the 3-CD Amazon-exclusive soundtrack will be issued on vinyl and released as an limited-run 6-LP set, with on 2,500 copies of the collection being pressed. A vinyl of the best moments of the 2-CD set will also be issued later in the summer.
