For their Winter Carnival 2017 Roots Revival Tour, String Cheese Incident has been focusing on playing intimate venues in some of their favorite ski towns as a nod to the band’s origins. After a smokin’ show the previous night in Crested Butte for the Red Lady Salvation Ball, last night, String Cheese moved southwest, hitting Club Red in the Telluride Conference Center for the first of two nights in beautiful Telluride, Colorado. Today, the band hit the slopes, playing a ski-in daytime set for anyone with a lift ticket who made it to Gorrono Ranch at the Telluride Ski Resort during midday before they return to Club Red tonight.

For Saturday night’s set, the band debuted a new tune called “Flying” sung by Billy during the second set, falling after their crowd-pleasing cover of The Talking Heads’ “Nothing But Flowers.” This newest track is off their latest album, Believe, which is due out later this year in April, and was used to kick off a non-stop jam sequence that closed out Saturday night’s show. Kang took the lead in building the song to its peak during its jam segment toward its end, a highlight of the new song which undoubtedly in the future will be further nuanced and locked down as it becomes part of the String Cheese catalog. “Flying” moved into “Let’s Go Outside,” which moved through “It Is What It Is” to end the second set with “Restless Wind.”

On Sunday, for their ski-to-show performance at the Telluride Ski Resort, the band put together an awesome show for the fans who made it up the mountain. Starting off with “Round The Wheel,” the band moved through “Lost” into “How Mountain Girls Can Love” before kicking off a “Born On The Wrong Planet” sandwich, with “Shake Everything You Got” squarely in between. A cover of The Allman’s Brothers “Jessica” came next, before it was worked into “Shine” to close out the special set.
