On Thursday, August 18th, the San Francisco Giants celebrated the legacy of Jerry Garcia during their Tribute Night at AT&T Park. Garcia, a San Francisco native, was honored throughout the evening with memorabilia that was available for fans, which included a Garcia bobblehead and Giants themed Garcia t-shirts. The night was especially unique, as the national anthem was performed by a star-studded group of musicians. Sunshine Becker, of Furthur and the Sunshine Garcia Band, made her third appearance at the annual tribute event to perform the anthem. Joining her that evening was last minute guest, Jennifer Hartswick, of the Trey Anastasio Band.  Hartswick was in town for a Rex Foundation benefit concert, also a tribute to Jerry Garcia, which was led by Giants player Jake Peavy. Becker reached out to Hartswick upon learning of her show and, without hesitation, agreed to join in for the festivities at the park. The evening was extra special as it was also Hartswick’s birthday, in addition to being the first time the two ladies performed together.

The final addition for the trifecta of eloquence was Tim Flannery joining in on guitar. Flannery is a retired third base coach for the Giants. Becker selected him to perform on guitar as a way to honor Garcia’s timeless musical contributions. Many thanks to Becker as she shared her personal, behind the scenes photos from the evening with L4LM.
