Colorado is coming to New York, as hot up and coming acts SunSquabi, Late Night Radio, and Maddy O’Neal have just announced a show at American Beauty on Saturday, April 29th. There is a good reason that these acts are packing out venues all over The Rockies on a regular basis, and it’s an opportunity for those in the Northeast to bear witness to what these up and comers are all about! (Purchase tickets here).
The SunSquabi trio of Kevin Donohue (guitar/keys/production), Chris Anderson (drums), and the recent addition of Analog Son’s Josh Fairman (bass/synth) are a force of electronic funk to be reckoned with. The group had a huge 2016 coming off the release of their debut EP, Odyssey, which featured guest spots from Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli, as well as future-funk producer GRiZ.
Late Night Radio‘s (aka Alex Medellin) mantra of “emotion over energy” certainly rings true when listening to his blend of soulful electronic hip-hop beats. Tracks like “Find The Love,” which features Break Science’s Borahm Lee, have that Pretty Lights feel to them that simply make you want to move and groove your body. He recently collaborated on the downtempo, hydro-electric cut “Cinnamon” with SunSquabi, which has been all the buzz.
What is there to say about Maddy O’Neal? Formerly of the duo Krooked Drivers, O’Neal recently decided to go out on her own, and has been creating some melodic beats to soothe your inner ear. Her recent remix of Alt-J‘s “Tessellate” has been making the rounds to rave reviews. Check it out below.
