R&B and hip-hop star T-Pain has all the accolades in what has been, in reality, a fairly short career (he just turned 30). The singer, producer, and arranger has received all the accolades, including a Grammy, “Songwriter of the Year” and “Producer of the Year” at the BMI Urban Music Awards, has worked with Kanye West, Ludacris, Chris Brown, and a slew of top talent. But what most people don’t know is that T-Pain can actually sing on his own, not needing the Auto-Tune sounds that have become his signature style.

Recently, NPR invited the artist to their studios for an All Things Considered interview and performance, in which he sang three songs: “Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin),” “Up Down (Do This All Day),” and “Drankin’ Patna.” Not for nothing, but it was a really solid, stripped down performance with T-Pain singing to the sounds of a keyboard, with nothing else (and no Auto-Tune).
