Anyone with access to the outside world is familiar with Taylor Swift, most likely associating the pop star with a strong, yet innocent, image. In protecting that image, Swift and her team have purchased several X-rated domain names, with the intention of preventing anyone else from using them.
A whole batch of new domain names will become available on June 1st, including the adult-themed ones: .porn, .adult, .sucks. However, before they are available, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is allowing certain trademarked entities access to purchase them.
So, Taylorswift.porn will more than likely be an empty page.
The expansion of domain names will make URL creation more specific to various brands, and will allow for greater parental control than the typical “.com” address. Residents of New York will most likely be familiar with the ad campaign promoting the .NYC domain.
