Last night, Tedeschi Trucks Band‘s 2017 “Wheels of Soul” tour kept on rolling into Raleigh, NC’s Red Hat Amphitheater. After opening performances by The Wood Brothers and Hot Tuna, the Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi-led 12-piece live juggernaut that is TTB took the stage and delivered a memorable performance.
After beginning with “Laugh About It” and “Don’t Know What It Means,” the band moved into Derek & The Dominos‘ “Anyday,” Trucks leading the way with a barrage of fiery licks in a sonic homage to Clapton. “Made Up Mind” came next, before a moving cover of the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More.”
Following the Allmans tribute, Tedeschi invited the Wood Brothers onstage for a pair of covers: Donnie McCormick‘s “Have You No Shame” and the Rolling Stones‘ “Sweet Virginia,” a tune that’s become a go-to vehicle for collaboration between TTB and the Woods over the course of the tour. From there, rousing renditions of fan-favorite original “Bound For Glory,” B.B. King‘s “How Blue Can You Get,” and “I Want More” closed out a well-received set before a double encore of Bobby “Blue” Bland‘s “Don’t Cry No More” and “Get What You Deserve” sent the crowd home singing.
