After recently making some fun additions last week, the LOCKN’ Festival has finalized their 2016 lineup with an interesting collaboration: The GWAR Cheese Incident. The performance will see heavy metal icons GWAR perform alongside The String Cheese Incident, marking a new genre into the band’s extensive career.

The String Cheese Incident is known for their many collaborative “incidents,” having recently performed with Skrillex, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Keller Williams and more. They’re also scheduled to perform a “Gregg Allman Incident” at this summer’s Peach Music Festival. The band frequently explores a number of genres, and heavy metal will be their biggest challenge yet.

“Lockn’ is all about on-stage collaborations, which is something String Cheese does on a routine basis. We really wanted to spotlight the band’s versatility in a brand new light, and what better way than a pairing with GWAR,” said festival founder David Frey in a statement. Promoter Peter Shapiro added, “we’re encouraging Cheese to dress up like their counterparts, but we can’t force them. It’s going to be a magical performance.”

When pressed for a comment, guitarist Bill Nershi simply hung his head and sighed.

From a band that explores sounds from bluegrass to electronica and everything in between, we can’t wait to hear what they’ll do with some heavy metal rock and roll. The full lineup includes Phish, Ween, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and so many more. Scheduled for Arrington, VA from August 25-28, you can find more information here.
