Last night, The Main Squeeze performed at the Madison Theatre in Covington, KY. Video evidence suggests that they absolutely destroyed the place with their rocking grooves and belting vocals. Being so close to Cincinnati, the Chicago-bred, LA-based quintet decided to pay their respects to Harambe, a 17-year-old Western lowland gorilla that was shot-dead earlier this year at the Cincinnati Zoo.
The incident occurred after a three-year-old boy fell into the Zoo’s gorilla enclosure. Taking the child into his own hands, Harambe was shot after showing signs of agitation and disorientation. The event drew nationally controversial reactions regarding the zoo’s handling of the situation. Experts of primatology later concluded that the zoo had no choice under the circumstances, and that the event highlighted the danger of animals in close proximity to humans – but even more, the need for better standards and overall understanding of care and consideration of life.
In honor of Harambe’s life, The Main Squeeze performed “The Circle of Life”, delivering an emotionally-charged, yet celebratory tribute to the late gorilla. The band had this to say about the incident: “We wanted to pay our respects to the memory of a majestic creature as well as all of the animals of the animal kingdom. We wished to shed light on the fact that this earth does not revolve around us, and it serves as a reminder to respect the other beings of this great planet and to understand we are just cogs in a much greater circle of life. RIP Harambe.”
