The String Cheese Incident opened up their annual Red Rocks Amphitheatre run last night in Morrison, CO. And if this show was any indication, it’s going to be nothing short of a triumphant run of shows for the Colorado sextet. With TAUK playing an impressive opening set on guitarist Matt Jalbert‘s birthday, Cheese came out and capitalized on the early energy they provided and knocked it out of the park. Any show that sees the group getting inducted into the Red Rocks Hall of Fame and a “Texas” opener is going to be straight fire, you can bet on it.

After a solid first set that featured “Water > It Is What it Is > Hi Ho No Show” to close things out, SCI turned it up and slayed the second set. A cover of Tears for Fears “Everybody Want To Rule The World” was a nice addition to the set, but the “Seventh Step, Black Clouds, Miss Brown’s Teahouse” segment blew the proverbial roof off the Rocks, with tight, funk-driven jamming. After a group hoot, an encore of “Rivertrance” had all bodies moving and grooving to end the first night fittingly. SCI return to the venue for night two later this evening.
