When the HBO documentary Montage of Heck hits the theaters on August 7th, the film will have a bit more than the original HBO version. Filmmaker and director Brett Morgen says he’s included a brand new Kurt Cobain song into the movie.

The new song doesn’t have a title, since none of the 107 demo cassettes that Cobain left behind had any markings on them, but the style is typical for early-90s Nirvana. The Billboard article announcing the song also came with the following description:

[It] has the familiar, dense slow-shred-slow guitar sound of Nirvana’s breakthrough album. The lyrics are mostly drowned out by Cobain’s playing — at one point, he sounds like he’s singing “Wonder how I breathe” and “I’m a bad man” — and through much of the song he affects a falsetto that’s faintly reminiscent of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson…

While Morgen says he didn’t alter any of the film, he wouldn’t specify where the song was included. Morgen said the reason is “because I don’t want to get people out there bootlegging it on their cell phones.” We’re excited for this premiere!
