Trading lasers for lightsabers? The Dunes Electroniques festival took place this past weekend in Nefta, Tunisia, on what Star Wars fans will recognize as the spaceport on the planet Tatooine. The actual location is called Mos Espa, and the specific spot, known as Ong Djemel, was built by Lucas just for the movies almost forty years ago.

Al Jazeera explains how the festival serves as a symbol of hope for the future for a region stricken with political and economic turbulence, both culturally and economically. Thousands flocked to the festival site for a weekend to unite and let go of their problems, showing the world that they are finally free of fear. The local economy was also tremendously impacted.
