According to a recent study by Spotify, heavy metal listeners are the most loyal to their genre.

The study identified various “core artists” for each genre, then determined how often the average listener returns to those genre favorites. For instance, heavy metal’s core bands included Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Pantera, Cradle Of Filth and Anthrax.

The study looked at categories like pop, EDM, folk, blues, jazz, classical, reggae, rock and country to identify where fans were most loyal to their “core artists.”

The results were undeniably high for fans in the metal category, with pop following behind in second place. Folk, country and rock came next, followed by hip hop and reggae. Jazz, EDM, classical and blues scored a bit lower.

One can conclude that the more guitar-oriented genres drive more loyalty for core artists, though it can also be determined that the categories that scored lower simply attract more support for their “fringe” artists.
