Last night, Umphrey’s McGee made their way to Augusta, GA, where they were slated to perform an “All Night Wrong” set at The Major Rager. The event featured performances from The Revivalists and Earphunk, before Umphrey’s got to work at the Augusta Commons. With help from horn players Natalie Cressman, Jennifer Hartswick, and Mike Quinn, as well as Amy Christian, Sharon Jones on vocals and Keith Jenkins on guitar, Umphrey’s put on one truly memorable performance.

The band started off their set with a Pink Floyd medley, playing “In The Flesh” into “Another Brick In The Wall.” From there, they introduced a stellar horn section with Cressman, Hartswick, and Quinn, who would remain on board for the rest of the set. Umphrey’s + horns broke into Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” before calling on Amy Christian and Keith Jenkins of James Brown’s band, as well as beloved vocalist Sharon Jones for a debut version of “I Got You (I Feel Good).” Too much fun.

Amy Christian stayed on for Doobie Brothers’ “Black Water,” but it was the trio of Cressman, Hartswick, and Quinn who would stay through the end of the set. Covers of The Band’s “Ophelia,” David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” Huey Lewis and the News’ “I Want A New Drug,” Paul Simon’s “Late In The Evening,” Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die,” Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” and, finally, Heart’s “Barracuda,” rode out the remainder of the set. Hartswick took vocals on the “All Night Wrong” set’s finale, bringing the energy level to a peak for the performance.

Umphrey’s kept things within their original catalog for set two, opening up with newer song “Speak Up” before bringing out classics like “Phil’s Farm,” “Deeper > Resolution > Hajimemashite” (with some fun teases throughout) and a “Wappy Sprayberry > Higgins” for the ages. They closed out the show with an encore of “Bad Friday,” bringing an end to what was a very fun performance from Umphrey’s McGee.
