Stemming from the “Let Trey Sing” shirt that became so popular during last summer’s Fare Thee Well concerts, “Let Fish Suck” of Phish’s 2015 summer tour, and the “Let Oteil Sing” shirt designed during the Dead & Company fall tour, now comes the Umphrey’s McGee-inspired “Let Joel Setlist” shirt. All proceeds raised from the sales will go to Alzheimer’s research, a cause very near and dear to Umphrey’s keyboard player Joel Cummins.

Cummins’ father Jerry passed earlier this year, after being diagnosed with the disease four years ago. In that time, Cummins said that it was music that had been a great way for the two to connect. He told the Chicago Tribune how, after recording some of his dad’s favorite songs from the 50s on piano before surgery back in April, his father “could sit down or lay on his bed, listen to music and be actively engaged for hours on end.” Cummins said, “I was really happy to be able to give that to him.”‘

In December, Cummins played a small concert at the Plymouth Place Senior Living in La Grange Park where his father and mother were residents, raising more than $1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. “It’s something that’s a really big issue for our country,” he said. “A lot of people are trying to figure out how to take care of each other and how to connect with the sweet wonderful people you always knew.” You can read the entire article at the Chicago Tribune here.”
