Plenty of high-profile celebrities have professed their love for the Grateful Dead throughout the years, but there is perhaps no Deadhead as visible as Bill Walton—both in the figurative and literal sense. A longtime fan, the NBA Hall of Famer has developed a friendship with the band over the years and is frequently spotted at shows, from Fare The Well to Dead & Company tour—at almost 7 feet tall, he’s pretty hard to miss in a crowd.

In recent years, he’s made some amusing cameos on the stage as well. In addition to appearing as part of Dead & Company’s 2015 New Year’s Eve shenanigans in Los Angeles as a Jedi Father Time, Walton helped close out Dead & Co’s 2016 summer tour by joining drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann and bassist Oteil Burbridge for their nightly “Drums” segment.
