In his touching final episode, David Letterman welcomed an all-star cast for his last top 10, thanked so many people for working on his show, and concluded the whole series with a video montage that played during one last musical performance, The Foo Fighters.

As previously mentioned, Letterman had a special connection with the Foo Fighters after the band’s song, “Everlong,” was instrumental in his recovery from open heart surgery in 2000. Letterman expanded on that story, saying that he wanted the band to perform on his first show back from the recovery, but was disappointed to find out that they were on tour in South America.

What did the band do? They cancelled the remainder of the tour so they could be with Letterman!

It’s moments like that that made Letterman’s tenure as a late night host truly memorable. Not to mention last night’s awesome top 10 list which featured appearances from Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Barbara Walters, Peyton Manning, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tina Fey, Bill Murray,

The Foo Fighters reprised their performance of “Everlong” as one final montage rolled on screen. It was a truly emotional moment, just before Letterman said one final “thank you and goodnight” to cap off a 33-year run as host of the Late Show. Watch below:

Fare well Letterman!
