The String Cheese Incident, Twiddle, Dopapod, and Nakho and Medicine For The People just closed out an incredible run at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. Luckily it was recorded by YouTube user evenstevenco.

Todd Stoops Sits In With Twiddle, String Cheese Incident Slays At The Red Rocks

Twiddle opened the show to a revved up crowd, and played an incredible set. “Jamflowman” led into a “Layla” jam that was tastefully done, and the band brought out Todd Stoops on keys for “Lost in the Cold.” Read the full review here.

Cheese came out strong with a “Dudley’s Kitchen” opener, and let things fly from there. The set-closing “Can’t Wait Another Day” featured both Jason Hann and Nershi “crashing” Kyle Hollingsworth‘s Yamaha keyboard. Second set opened with a stellar cover of The Rolling Stones‘ “Sympathy for the Devil”, and “On The Road” set things off to a whole other level. The set-closing “Best Feeling > It Is What It Is > Black Clouds” kept the flow of the night, showing SCI in fine form. An encore of “Smile” put the final touches on the night, leaving those of us in the venue in sheer bliss.

Dopapod opened up the second night with an improv filled set:

The String Cheese Incident pulled out all the stops last night for night two of their three night Red Rocks run, as this Saturday night special was one for the books. The highlight of the set came when the band jammed “Round The Wheel” into a tease of Phish‘s “First Tube”, which had the venue shaking. “Sweet Melinda”, a Peter Rowan original, was beautifully played, and we may even get that next week at Gathering of the Vibes when Cheese will be playing a special set with both Rowan and David Grisman. A set-closing cover of Paul McCartney/Wings‘ “Live And Let Die” brought a proper close to set one.

String Cheese Incident Plays Phish, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Brings Out Special Guests At Red Rocks

The slow, melancholic vibe of “Hotel Window” led into a much-anticipated “Rivertrance” that was more than memorable with Michael Kang leading the way on violin. The encore never seemed to end, which was perfectly fine with us. It began with a “Drums” jam between Michael Travis, Jason Hann and special guests Dave Watts (The Motet) and Jeremy Salken (Big Gigantic) getting all sorts of weird. Read the full review here.

The third night started off with an inspiring set from Nahko and Medicine for the People provided the perfect lead-in to Cheese’s first of two headlining sets.

The third and final night of The String Cheese Incident‘s 3-night Red Rocks Amphitheatre run proved once again the saying ‘Never Miss A Sunday Show’ to be completely true. “Joyful Sound” segued perfectly into a most welcome “Miss Brown’s Teahouse.” “Bollymunster” was like being transferred from Colorado to India, as all of us sudden everyone in attendance became expert Bhangra dancers, as we turned the light bulbs at a Punjabi harvest celebration. A second set opener of “Howard” proved to be one of several highlights of the night, as the song saw Cheese jam into a cover of Rush‘s “Tom Sawyer” back into “Howard.”

String Cheese Incident Cover Rush, Grateful Dead Staple And More To Close Red Rocks Run

Any encore that begins with “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” is always a good one, as the Talking Heads cover has become a song that Cheese has truly made their own. And if that wasn’t enough, we got a “Jellyfish” afterwards….and an epic one at that, with the band clearly connecting on all levels. As the band had some more left in the tank, a cover of Grateful Dead staple “I Know You Rider” brought the third and final night of the SCI’s Red Rocks run to a close in spectacular fashion.
