Back on November 12th, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead stopped at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, CA for an awesome night of Grateful Dead music. The show was filled with huge highlights, as “Cumberland Blues”, “Help On The Way”, “The Music Never Stopped”, and “The Wheel” all showed up in the fist set, Bob Weir joined the band during their new mid-show acoustic set, and “Uncle John’s Band”, “Eyes Of The World”, and “Throwing Stones” all got trotted out in the show’s final frame.

Among the many highlights was the first-set-closing “Jack Straw”, with Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger trading vocals on the emotional track before the band picked up the energy and blasted off into improvisational space. JRAD can’t seem to help themselves when it comes to improv, delivering high energy jams around every corner, and this “Jack Straw” might be a perfect example of the band’s skills. The band is fully locked in, pushing each other in a way that most bands can only dream of. Check out this incredible version of “Jack Straw” from the Fox Theater in Oakland below.
