This past Halloween, The String Cheese Incident turned in another special themed set of music at the Suwanee Hulaween music festival. This year’s theme was “Stringier Things”, a play on the popular Netflix science-fiction show “Stranger Things” that dominated pop culture this summer. The show takes place in the 1980s, and the music in the show reflects that time period with tons of synthesizer sounds, provided by retro masterminds Survive. In honor of this awesome soundtrack, String Cheese Incident put together a live playlist of their favorite songs from the decade to deliver the ultimate tribute to the 80’s.

The band opened the set with “Would I Lie To You?” by Eurythmics, before busting out tracks by The Clash, Earth, Wind and Fire, Billy Idol, The B-52s, Guns N’ Roses and other icons from the era. “Upside Down” by Diana Ross was trotted out as a direct tribute to “Stranger Things”, a reference to the spooky alternate reality from the TV show. The band also mixed in some goofy classics like “The Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats and “She Blinded Me With Science” by Thomas Dolby.

It was an incredible party and an awesome way to celebrate Halloween, keeping the crowd dancing throughout as they went from one hit song to another. The band was joined by the horn section from Antibalas, as well as vocalists Rhonda Thomas and Tony White, all of whom added a special vibe to the occasion and helped bring SCI’s sound to new places.
