Thousands of people joined together yesterday at the East Meadow of NYC’s Central Park to organize the world’s largest peace sign. While the crowd gathered did not actually break the record, the event was certainly a moving tribute by Yoko Ono to her late husband, John Lennon.

Lennon would have turned 75 this Friday, October 9th.

As previously reported, the public display was also an attempt to help fundraise for a mobile instructional art exhibit called “The Lennon Bus”, which would travel from city to city, working with young children to foster their musical abilities. It’s a worthy cause that may bring about the next generation of musicians.

While the peace sign brought over 2,000 people to Central Park, Ithaca’s record of 5,814 people for a human peace sign remains unbroken. Still, for Beatles fans young and old to come together for such a demonstration was a touching moment.
