Promoters in Telluride, Colorado have been trying to get Neil Young to grace the Town Park stage for decades, and this past weekend, the isolated box canyon was treated to two special and intimate shows as the fall colors peaked with bright gold aspen leaves lining the valley. Die hard fans made the pilgrimage from all over to witness these very special shows on the small field in Telluride. While both shows had similarities in set lists, each night had its own very special bust outs and deep cuts.

Each show began with Young performing solo, on a piano that has been through both a fire and a flood, before he did a number of solo acoustic classics as the sunset alpenglow peaked. Once Promise of the Real joined Neil onstage, they began with an acoustic/electric section before a full on electric storm.

Neil was and always seems to be in top form, and towards the second half of the each show, began to just slaughter his guitars with overdrive, playing epic solo after solo. Each nigh had one song they really let loose on: night one was a 30+ minute “Love and Only Love”, while night two featured a 20+ minute “Down by the River with plenty of room to jam. Fans were also treated to live debuts of five unreleased songs, “Hang Gliders”, “Peace Trail”, “Show Me”, and “Indian Givers.” Many other classics and deep cuts were chosen from Neil’s deep catalog to make the weekend one to truly remember for the crowd lucky enough to make the journey.
