The Nth Power is currently on tour in support of their upcoming album, Live: To Be Free, which was recorded live over three nights at in Brooklyn, NY and in Boston, MA in August. The album is due out on November 11th and sees the group delivering plenty of truth and love in their evolution (pre-order here).

Nick Cassarino (guitar/vocals), Nate Edgar (bass), keyboardist Courtney J’mell Smith (keyboard), and drummer Nikki Glaspie (drums) delivered plenty of that soul over the weekend in Colorado, with shows at Barkley Ballroom, Cervantes Other Side, Hodi’s Half Note, and The Fox Theatre.

The group brought along the Jaden Carlson Band for part of the run, and traded-off sit-ins during both of their sets. The Nth Power played a thorough selection of tracks from their latest effort, including “Truth,” a socio-political number that gets right down to the thick of things that are effecting the current state of this union.

“Only Love” from 2015’s Abundance is a very simple statement of what The Nth Power is all about, with lyrics that are inspirational, honest, and undeniably soulful down to their its very core, it’s difficult to not let your soul surrender to the flow. With straight grooves, beautiful harmonies, and an undeniable chemistry, this is a group that transcends genres effortlessly.

If you like that R&B, soulful baby-making music, then “Could It Be” is the track for you to get things heated up with your loved one. If you can’t undulate your hips to this one, I don’t know what to tell you, because you’re simply doing it wrong.

Nate Edgar is dirty on the bass, and along with his partner-in-crime Nikki Glaspie, these two are one of the most formidable rhythm sections in the business. The point is clearly proven on numbers such as “Right Now”, while Smith and Cassarino providing those extra layers and depth on keys and guitar, respectively.

“Take My Soul” is a truly gritty blues number, featuring Cassarino channeling his inner Stevie Ray Vaughan. Carlson sat in with the Nth on this number during Sunday’s show at The Fox (check out video below). The group continues their tour, as they head back east, tomorrow in Memphis, TN. This is one soul train that you will want to make sure you get on at the next stop.
