Above And Beyond Celebrate Release of Anjunabeats Vol. 10, 2/16

New York City is home to some of the biggest concerts and hottest nightclubs in all of the world. On a weekly basis, this city's venues are filled with superstar musicians, and every once in a while these shows sell out and become hot tickets. This past Saturday, Above And Beyond's launch party for their latest release, Anjunabeats Vol. 10, may have been the hottest ticket of 2013 so far. The show sold out almost instantly and tickets on the second hand market reached upwards of $400 in the days prior to the show.

This should have came as no surprise to hardcore dance music fans, as Above and Beyond have become one of the biggest acts in not only the trance music scene, but in all of EDM. They have been in the top 10 of the DJ Mag Top 500 list for the past five years, they've won two BBC Radio Essential Mix of the Year Awards, and they played to a reported 1 million people in Rio de Janeiro in 2007. Along the way, Above And Beyond have acquired a cult fan base similar to huge rock bands, garnering a group of dedicated fans, which is somewhat rare in today's dance music scene.

Without a proper New York City show in 2012 (although they did host the Group Therapy Stage at last year's Electric Zoo), these hardcore fans came out in full force, flooding Roseland Ballroom for a night of pure madness. Above and Beyond have not only released a steady stream of hits over the past few years, but they know how to throw a party and cater to a specific crowd. When they play a pool party in Vegas, they read the crowd and mix in top 40 hits and some hip hop. On a Saturday night at Roseland Ballroom, they knew the crowd was there for one thing – trance music.

Expertly mixing together their modern classics, tracks from the upcoming Anjunabeats Vol. 10, and unreleased exclusive remixes, Above And Beyond kept the crowd packed for several hours, bumping song after song of trance music perfection. Big synths filled the room and heavy bass got the crowd moving, song after song. Of course, there plenty of sing along moments like when the room nearly stopped for 'Sun and Moon', but the real highlights were the unreleased tracks and unheard mixes.

Visually, Roseland always entertains with CO2 blasts, confetti, and lights but Above and Beyond brought a more simple setup featuring some unique visuals and the ability to send messages to crowd which was a nice touch. At certain points of the show, the DJ's would display messages directly to the audience to create entertaining reactions from the crowd, telling them to dance or move or scream or informing the crowd they stole Madonna's song title for their new track.Above and Beyond will no doubt have a huge 2013; there has been much hype for Anjunabeats Vol. 10, as it's predecessor won the aforementioned BBC Radio Essential Mix of the Year Award. They'll also be playing both the Main Stage, and Armin van Buuren's A State Of Trance Tent at Ultra Music Festival, in the midst of what will no doubt to be a busy summer. If you got shut out of Roseland, you can only hope for the return of the Group Therapy Stage at this year's Electric Zoo. Everyone should get a chance at Above and Beyond at some point this year.
