Last night brought together a tribute to Amy Winehouse, Jazz Is Phish, and Turkuaz playing the music of The Band at The Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans. The “Thankful For Amy: An All-Star Tribute To Amy Winehouse” set featured Elise Testone (American Idol), Jennifer Hartswick ( Trey Anastasio Band), Chris Bullock (Snarky Puppy), Cris Jacobs (The Bridge), Raymond Weber, Chris Severin (Allen Toussaint), Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band), and Nicole Zuraitas.

Amy Winehouse is known for her deep soulful vocals and expressive lyrics, blending rhythm and blues, neo-soul, and jazz. She made a huge impact in the music industry, only releasing two records in her twenty-seven years of life, and won five Grammy Awards for her sophomore album Back to Black in 2008. She is the first British female to win five Grammys, which included “Best New Artist, “Record of the Year,” and “Song of the Year,” and walked away as the most wins for a female artist in one single night.

Elise Testone did an incredible job performing Winehouse’s soulful music, with an impressive band to back her up. The female presence was strong with Trey Anastasio’s incredible horn and vocal section, Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman, lending their undeniable umph to the collective sound of the band. With members of Snarky Puppy, The Bridge, and Allen Toussaint’s band, the band really put the “super” in the “group.”

The set featured radio classics like “Rehab” and “Valerie,” and had Amy Winehouse fans melting in the beauty of her powerful discography with songs like “Tears Dry On Their Own,” “Wake Up Alone,” “Some Unholy War,” and “Stronger Than Me.” The night ended on another honorable note with a cover of Prince’s “Musicology.” Watch some of the night’s highlights below:
