Anne Clark, better known as singer, songwriter, and musician St. Vincent, treated an energized audience at Philip’s Arena in Atlanta, GA to an invigorating show on Thursday, December 11th. Opening with “Rattlesnake,” a tune from her most recent album titled St. Vincent, Anne Clark revealed herself from the depths of backstage, robotically tip-toeing, and gracefully gliding, in marvelous fashion about the platform while incorporating her uniquely choreographed dance moves and arm swings. Backed by repetitious, electronic staccatos from keyboardist Daniel Mintseris, “Rattlesnake,” kicked off the night with an aggressive power punch of intensity. The following numbers, “Cruel,” and, “Marrow,” built upon the excitement established in the opener with rhythms supported by drummer Matt Johnson and melodic assistance from guitarist/keyboardist Toko Yasuda.

The remainder of St. Vincent’s performance promoted one of the most positively reviewed album of the year, St. Vincent, with the band performing eight of the ten tracks on the album. St. Vincent’s live act was equally as impressive as her studio album confirming critics positive evaluation. Songs, “Regret,” “Huey Newton,” and “Birth in Reverse,” were personal favorites of mine before entering the arena, and Clark’s live renditions made me fall in love with them all over again. “Bring Me Your Loves,” closed out the set which properly endorsed St. Vincent’s fierce ability to churn out wonderfully crunchy, psychedelic guitar riffs.

Clark is quickly becoming an icon of the rock genre and she demands our attention. Her exuding confidence, captivating stage presence, and theatrical choreography is an affirmation to St. Vincent’s ability to completely mesmerize an audience. Although we only received one set of St. Vincent at Philip’s Arena, you can bet I’ll be signing up to see her again as soon as possible—this trippy chick is a must see!
